Hoobastank

Notable Songs:

            Crawling in the Dark (9/10)

            Remember Me (8/10)

            Pieces (8/10)

Notes:

Semi- hardcore, I would say they are a hybrid of like Incubus and Linkin Park.

Hot Rod Circuit

Notable Songs:

            The Pharmacist (9/10)

            Irish Car Bomb (8/10)

            Radiation Suit (8/10)

Notes:

I actually heard them live before anything else, and so I downloaded some of their songs.  Definitely a legitimate band, another real good song is “The Power of Vitamins” and their first popular song I think was “Very Best Friend.”

Incubus

Notable Songs:

            Drive (9/10)

            Pardon Me (9/10)

            Stellar (8/10)

Notes:

Well maybe they shouldn’t be on this list, but they are a great band.  Their new CD is good as well.

Jimmy Eat World

Notable Songs:

            Sweetness (9/10)

            Praise Chorus  (9/10)

            Bleed America (8/10)

Notes:

Awesome emo band, I highly recommend them.  But of course, being as popular as they are, and because lots of people compare bands to them, I am sure you have heard of them.

Juliana Theory, The

Notable Songs:

If I Told You This Was Killing Me (9/10)

            Music Box Superhero (8/10)

Understand the Dream Is Over (8/10)

Notes:

This was difficult to pick a top three.  I would say many others are of 8 caliber as well, but I think “If I Told You This Was Killing Me” is their best song by far.  It is awesome, and they are definitely an emo group.  However, you will notice that some of the songs are more punk, while others are slow and emotionally packed.

June Spirit, The

Notable Songs:

            Subject to Change (8/10)

New Jersey in my Rearview Mirror (7/10)

…And the Radio Played The Hits (7/10)

Notes:

I like Subject to Change, but it is hard to call them a great band.  Their songs sound a little off or something, it stops them from being really good.  I mean they are good, but with their sound right now they will never be great.

Lagwagon

Notable Songs:

            Making Friends (10/10)

            Know-It-All (9/10)

May 16 (9/10)

Notes:

One of the bands that really got me into punk.  They have awesome guitars and I like the style.  Definitely check them out.  Other great songs: “Wind in Your Sail”, “Alien 8”, or anything on the Double Platinum album.

Larger Than Life

Notable Songs:

            Some Kind of Wonderful (9/10)

I Could Be the One (8/10)

Growing Apart  (7/10)

Notes:

I just found out about these guys and they seem really good for a not-so-popular band.  “Some Kind of Wonderful” is awesome (even tho it’s a cover), and every song on their CD “Easy Way Out” seems really good.  I would say they are similar to Rufio although the vocals are a little different.

Less Than Jake

Notable Songs:

            Look What Happened (9/10)

Johnny Quest Thinks We’re Sellouts (9/10)

Help Save the Youth of America (9/10)

Notes:

Great ska/punk.  They have plenty of great songs, very diverse, all of it sounds good.  The high ratings speak for themselves.

Linkin Park

Notable Songs:

            In the End (9/10)

            One Step Closer (8/10)

            Papercut (8/10)

Notes:

You’ve probably heard them or at least heard of them.  They are basically hardcore.

Mest

Notable Songs:

            Cadillac (9/10)

            Without You (8/10)

            It’s Over (7/10)

Notes:

Originally they had that stupid song “What’s the dilio?” played on the radio for a while, it’s a real shame.  They are actually a pretty sweet band.  The lyrics are kind of shallow and repetitive but if you really want deep words you can read some poetry.

Midtown

Notable Songs:

            Just Rock and Roll (10/10)

No Place Feels Like Home (9/10)

            Let Go (8/10)

Notes:

Awesome punk band that is definitely gaining popularity.  Check out their CD for sure.

Millencollin

Notable Songs:

            No Cigar (8/10)

            Killer Crush (8/10)

            Penguins and Polarbears (8/10)

Notes:

Yet another good band.  I was surprised to hear that some of the stuff was actually slow on their new CD.  I think that some of their songs sound too much alike, but they are easily worth downloading.  Some people think they sound like Lagwagon but I don’t really see very much of a resemblance.

Movie Life

Notable Songs:

            Hand Grenade (8/10)

            This Time Next Year (7/10)

            One Way Ticket (7/10)

Notes:

They have a lot of songs worth downloading, but personally I don’t think they are anything spectacular.  They do have a unique style though, and you can check out some of the songs to get an idea of it.

New Found Glory

Notable Songs:

            Hit or Miss (9/10)

            Dressed to Kill (9/10)

            Sucker (9/10)

Notes:

Okay I have no doubt that you have heard of them.  It was difficult to choose the top three songs, there are a bunch of others that could be given 9, such as “Boy Crazy”, “3rd and Long”, or “Better Off Dead”.  It was also unfortunate that I one of their songs isn’t a 10, they have many great ones, but none that I feel are a 10.

NoFX

Coming soon.

No Motiv

Notable Songs:

            The Waiting Hurt (9/10)

            Only You (8/10)

            Stay (8/10)

Notes:

Wow, I actually only started listening in order to review some of their songs.  “The Waiting Hurt” is great, I can’t wait to listen to some more of their songs.

No Use For A Name

Notable Songs:

            Chasing Rainbows (8/10)

            Saddest Song (8/10)

Coming Too Close (7/10)

Notes:

Good band that sounds a lot like Lagwagon in my opinion, although I believe they are about as popular as Lagwagon.  I don’t personally like them as much but I can’t say I have listened to them for as long.

Nothing to Lose

Notable Songs:

            The Missing Pieces (8/10)

            On My Own (8/10)

            3 Days Ago (8/10)

Notes:

This band is pretty good.  Some songs sound like full-blown emo, others more like pop-punk, and yet others that are more classic punk.  Although they are not totally unique, as they do resemble other pop-punk bands, they do sound a bit refreshing compared to all the Blink and NFG clones.

Offspring

  Notable Songs:

            Self Esteem (9/10)

            Come out and Play (8/10)

            I Want You Bad (8/10)

Notes:

Remember when them and Green Day were like the most popular punkish bands?  Well they are still great and their songs are worth downloading.  Check out their cover of Total Immortal, and the song from Crazy Taxi (The Chain).

POD

Notable Songs:

            Alive (9/10)

            School of Hard Knocks (7/10)

            Youth of a Nation (7/10)

Notes:

Hardcore Christian band.  I really like Alive.  I am not into the style but the music is still good.

Promise Ring, The

Notable Songs:

Why Did We Ever Meet? (7/10)

            Forget Me (7/10)

            Make Me A Chevy (6/10)

Notes:

The top songs I think are okay, but the other stuff I have heard sounds like they are whining.  Maybe I have to listen more, but my first impression hasn’t been great.
